Just like how the rest of the world seemingly have been hooked up with the many facilities of the internet, Chinas is also starting to get hooked in the same kind of addiction that millions of people have already discovered: micro blogging. When the Chinese discovered what they can do with Twitter, it became clear to them what kind of freedom and opportunities they have. Micro blogging presented an opportunity for them to share the things they found enjoyable and what made their emotions tick. However, just like how other online applications have met their difficulties and challenges, the surge in interest on micro blogging has been curtailed by government controls. In Beijing, Twitter, where people can post quick updates and other thoughts as fast as they can, has been blocked. The Chinese community was silent during the blocking but it wasn’t until the Chinese media giant Sina decided to launch a micro blogging platform similar to that of Twitter. Nonetheless, despite the surge once more in interest over micro blogging, Chinese authorities have named their price: traffic monitoring and micro blogging controls.
Nonetheless, there were several opinions made on writing personal blogs. Some expressed their laments on having to always screen what they say because in it’s entirely, the purpose of blogs is to allow people to freely express their own thoughts and emotions. Controls and other measures only forfeit the purpose of blogging. Micro blogging which refers to the sending of brief text, audio or video to a specified group has been seeing an increase in patronization in the Chinese market. Approximately, around 360 million of China’s internet users have already been hooked to micro blogging. This was further supported by the New Weekly magazine of the country. The magazine made a story about China’s interest over micro blogging and entitled it the “Micro Revolution.” China initially banned the use of sites like Twitter after people started using it to transmit message and images regarding the riots made in opposition of the government in Western China. While sites such as YouTube and similar networking sites have been blocked, the attachment of the Chinese internet users to micro blogging and similar applications could not be impeded. Several sties sprung up helping the Chinese people to express their thoughts and opinions just like Twitter. The interest over micro blogging has generated quite the debate and never were there an incident which had been comparatively influential and a subject of many discussions as that of micro blogging. The interest over micro blogging has been extremely intense that the government is already focusing on monitoring micro blogging activities. The formation of links has also been extremely evident and this has alarmed the state. The Chinese landscape has been extremely overpowered by the influence of micro blogging that the government has been very determined to control the discourse and networks made over the internet. Currently, the Chinese government has been in an extremely censorious mode. Nonetheless, this has not stop the fad over micro blogging yet.
